Station takes another step forward                         Source: News & Advance

The Bedford-Franklin Regional Rail Initiative has gained new momentum in its efforts to bring an Amtrak rail station to the town of Bedford.

The group presented a conceptual station design during a Bedford Town Council meeting Tuesday that would have a traffic circle, 94 parking spots and a 700-foot platform.

In a 6-0 vote, with Beck Stanley absent, the town council agreed to not sell the land as the group continues to advocate for the station.

The rail group has been actively pushing for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Safety to reconsider adding Bedford to the Lynchburg-Roanoke line slated for 2017. So far, the group boasts more than 7,000 signatures on its petition.
